Priya Karakkattil earned her PhD in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony was performed by the Dean of the Graduate school Dr. Carolyn Kapinus, PhD and her major professor, Dr. Elaine Trudelle-Jackson, PhD on May 12th, 2018 at the commencement ceremony of the Texas Woman’s University, Denton. Priya’s dissertation was on “Effects of Two Different Types of Ankle Foot Orthoses on Gait Outcomes in Patients with Subacute Stroke.” She was awarded a grant to conduct her doctoral research by the Texas Physical Therapy Foundation. Her preliminary research on " Outcomes of botulinum toxin type A for equinovarus deformity in patients with CVA " which resulted in a peer reviewed publication in the International Journal of Physiotherapy Theory and Practice.
She has presented at the American Physical Therapy Association’s national conference and received the outstanding research poster presentation award at the Texas Physical Therapy Association’s Annual Conference in 2006. Priya received her bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University, Dallas. She was also nominated by the faculty at the Texas Woman’s University, School of Physical Therapy for the Graduate Council Award for Exceptional Original Scholarship. Priya is a physical therapist at Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation, where she also teaches the certified brain injury specialist program with Brain Injury Association of America. She is passionate about prevention and rehabilitation of various neurological disorders and is planning to continue her research and teaching focusing neurological rehabilitation.
Priya is the oldest daughter of Prof. K. J. Joy Muprappallil and (late) Cicy Joy (Chamakkala, Kaipuzha) from Areekkara. She is married to Sibi Karakkattil (Eravimangalam) and they have three daughters, Reshma (12th grade), Raina (7th grade) and Rachna (2nd grade). Priya and her family are active members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Knanaya Community.
